Earth Observations have the potential for assisting governments mitigate climate change, better respond to dwindling natural resources and address rising inequality. With better data, governments are able to make informed decisions and support key sectors like agriculture, telecommunications and health to become leaner and more efficient. With these grand challenges, ‘business as usual’ is simply not an option and now, making policy makers embrace innovative ways to collect information about our rapidly-changing planet.

In this regard, the newly instituted Kenya Space Agency is adopting cross-government leadership of the Africa Regional Data Cube (ARDC), that provides analysis ready data that enables African countries respond to the President’s priority of food security, urbanization and water. Africa Regional Data Cube Initiative – Providing solutions to Africa’s major problems

Officials expected at the handing over event include, the Cabinet Secretary for Defence, The Director General of the Kenya Space Agency, Representatives from UN Environment and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data for SDGs. The event will culminate with the handing over of the multi Million Dollar Africa Regional Data Cube (ARDC) to the Kenya Space Agency.
