Apply For A Postdoctoral Position In Astronomy And Astro-tourism For Development At The University of Namibia

The University of Namibia (UNAM) seeks a resourceful, innovative PhD astronomer with experience and motivation in public outreach, education and development activities. This postdoctoral position, with a specific focus on Astro-tourism for development, is supported by an award from the UK Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) to the University of Oxford. This GCRF project aims to develop human capacity in Namibia across the areas of science, education, and astronomy-related tourism.

Candidates should have completed a PhD in any area of astrophysics before commencing the post. Applicants should send a CV (two pages) and description of relevant experience in astronomy public outreach, education and/or development along with a statement of research interests (three pages in total) to Ashling Gordon (as************@ph*****.uk) and arrange for two confidential reference letters to be sent to the same address.

Consideration of applications will begin on the 30th of November, 2019, and will continue until the post is filled. This post is one of several available under the UNAM-Oxford GCRF project and is in addition to the posts recently advertised in high-energy astrophysics. 5 Job Vacancies Available At Kenya Ministry of Defence

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is pleased to announce the recruitment of General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets, Specialist Officers, General Duty Recruits, Tradesmen/women and Constables, which is scheduled to take place this month, November and December 2019.

The prospective candidates willing to join the Kenya Defence Forces MUST meet the
following conditions and academic qualifications:
A. General Conditions
(1) Be a Kenyan citizen with no dual citizenship.
(2) Have a valid Kenyan National Identity Card. Additionally, 4 Copies
of the National Identity Card and PIN certificate will be required.
(3) Age – Between 18 and 26 years old for GSO Cadets, General Duty Recruits and Tradesmen/women with Certificate/Government Trade Test, not above 30 years for Specialist Officers, Tradesmen/women with Diploma, and not above 39 years for Chaplains/Imams.
(4) Be physically and medically fit by the KDF standards.
(5) Have no criminal record.

(6) Minimum Height:
(a) Men 1.60m (5ft 3in).
(b) Women 1.52m (5ft).

(7) Minimum Weight:
(a) Men 54.55 Kg (120 lb).
(b) Women 50.00 Kg (110 lb).

(8) Female candidates must NOT be pregnant at the time of recruitment and during
the entire duration of training.

Earn R565 000 Per Annum As A Marion Island Electronics Engineer For SANSA

The South African National Space Agency (SANSA) has a mandate, as outlined in the South African National Space Agency Act, 2008 (Act No 36 of 2008), to co-ordinate and integrate national space science and technology programmes and conduct long-term planning and implementation of space-related activities in South Africa, for the benefit of the citizens of South Africa.

SANSA has this opportunity in the Space Science Directorate situated in Hermanus, Western Cape to be filled by an individual with the relevant skills, drive, competencies, and qualifications. The candidate will work as an Electronics Engineer at Marion Island with a salary of R565 000 Per annum.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have:

  • At least a B Eng (Electronics Engineering) or equivalent.
  • The ability to work and live with small groups of people is essential.
  • Competency in electronic maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs with proven fault-finding capabilities; experience working with computers, especially with LINUX operating systems; experience in programming, especially in BASH and Python, would be an advantage

Ethiopian Space Science and Technology Institute Calls For Female Researchers

Ethiopian Space Science and Technology Institute (ESSTI) is an institute established in Ethiopia to lead Space Science and Technology from end to end research in all space applications, space infrastructure development, satellite development and operation, and international collaboration in Astronomy and Astrophysics, space science and application, satellite technology, Aeronautics and astronautics, earth observation and related space and science technologies.

Presently, ESSTI is searching for an outstanding candidate with excellent experience and prominent academic, research and technical skills. ESSTI is willing to support female researchers and aim to cover all the necessary costs for research on space science and technology areas.

Required Qualifications 

Interested applicants must fulfil the required qualification and requirements listed below:

  1.  MSC Degree and above in Space Science and Technology areas.
  2.  Support letter from government organisations, which they are working in.
  3.  Applicants must be Ethiopian.
