Space in Africa and Planet will be hosting a webinar themed Planet to Africa: Cross-Exploration of Space Agencies Towards a Brighter Future on Wednesday, 20th July 2022.
The need for and access to geospatial data infrastructure in Africa cannot be overstated, and governments at all levels require unrestricted and efficient access to reliable, accurate, timely and up-to-date fundamental earth observation data (EO) to function efficiently and provide required solutions to issues in agriculture, energy, urban development and weather forecasting. Satellite EO data and insights enable the availability, exchange of and access to vital information for informed decision-making to alleviate many of the fundamental challenges that Africa is struggling with, like climate change, famine, defence and urbanisation, to mention a few.
Thus, the Planet to Africa webinar will feature presentations and panel discussions from the heads of national space agencies of Rwanda, Angola and Ethiopia on some of their pain points and focus areas with regard to geospatial intelligence, and introduce Planet’s products and services to pave the way forward. Therefore, the event seeks to understand the priorities and challenges facing national space agencies, especially in sectors like agriculture, energy, climate action, EO intelligence, insurance and earth observation insights for informed decision-making.
In addition, the webinar is aimed at collaboration between national space agencies and NewSpace companies in Africa; inviting them for an open discussion during the webinar. It invites national space agencies, commercial space companies, decision-makers, space enthusiasts and industry professionals to participate and contribute to data-driven and stimulating conversations for socio-economic benefits of the continent using geospatial data. Furthermore, the Planet to Africa webinar is an excellent chance to understand the inner workings of African national space agencies better and discover opportunities for collaboration and results. Also, the event will provide an avenue for commercial space companies and industry professionals to contact the African community on geospatial technology.
