The theme of the workshop is “The strategic challenges of the integration of space technologies for the development of Cameroon.”
Although Cameroon is not very present in the world space scene, its social and economic development largely depends on the use of space applications and services. The number of civil society organizations and space-related business enterprises continues to grow, and the country is becoming a hotbed for space activities in the region. Cameroon is one of the developing countries of the world with a long and consistent history, a centralized state tradition. Not only does not have an agency, but there is no infrastructure dealing with space issues either.
Cameroon lacks the industrial base, educational base and political base for such a process to take place in the coming years. Cameroon does not operate satellites and has no space power.
As a result, SGAC offers students and professionals interested in this field a solid foundation for learning from a growing global community of talented professionals who share a common vision of space. Those interested could benefit from activities bringing together experts and young professionals to discuss issues that influence Cameroon’s future in space. As humanity seeks to explore and conquer the Moon, the stars and beyond, a new generation of scientists and political leaders is essential to carry out this vision for decades and centuries to come. Cameroonians, young girls and boys, can integrate into this global vision by becoming involved in space activities and laying the foundations of the future through the SGAC network.
Space 237 workshop will be held in the conference room of the French Institute of Cameroon in Yaounde. The workshop already lines up guest facilitators who are experts from the SGAC network, the U.S National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the International Astronomical Union (IAU), among others.
The workshop will be held on 20 September 2019 in Yaounde.
Registration deadline is on 18 September 2019.
