SANSA, SWF begins workshop on socioeconomic benefits of space resources utilization – African perspectives

This two day (23-24 May 2019) workshop jointly organized by Secure World Foundation and South African Space Agency (SANSA) will engage with the African mining and space agency communities on the questions of space resources benefits in the developing/emerging space nation context. The event seeks to draw out perspectives from the space resources community, the African space agency community, and the African terrestrial extractive industries sector, which respect to both the perceived potential positive benefits and negative impacts of space resources development. The workshop is holding at the Multipurpose Centre Department of International Relations & Cooperation (DIRCO) OR Tambo Building 460 Soutpansberg Road, Rietondale, Pretoria, South Africa.

It will also feed back into the ongoing work of The Hague International Space Resources Governance Working Group, in particular it’s SocioEconomic Panel.

The workshop will feature talks from officials representing SANSA, Secure World Foundation, Center for Space Resources, Colorado School of Mines, ISPACE INC, Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), South Africa, South African Council for Space Affairs, Luxembourg Space Agency, Technical University of Kenya, National Space Research and Development Agency, Nigeria, Ethiopian Space Science and Technology Institute, African Union Commission, University of the Witwatersrand, Eunomix, African Regional Centre for Space Science & Technology Education (ARCSSTE-E) and IAU Office of Astronomy for Development.
