The South African Gamma-Ray Astronomy Programme (SA-GAMMA) is a consortium of South African Universities and research institutions which engage in research in the fields of gamma-ray astronomy and high-energy astrophysics. As a central aspect of this mission, it coordinates the South African involvement in the High Energy Stereoscopic System (H.E.S.S.), the world’s leading ground-based very-high-energy gamma-ray observatory located south-west of Windhoek, Namibia, and in the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA), the planned next-generation ground-based very-high-energy gamma-ray astronomy facility.

The SA-GAMMA is seeking suggestions for the design of a logo. This logo should symbolize the southern African astronomy facilities (in particular, The High Energy Stereoscopic System (H.E.S.S.), the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT), MeerKAT) and/or the various research topics (e.g., AGN, pulsars, X-ray/gamma-ray binaries, astroparticle physics, …) and/or contain references to African astronomy heritage.

Entries should be sent to the SA-GAMMA Chairperson, Markus Boettcher (Ma*************@nw*.za) by the deadline of June 25, 2019.

The winning entry and, thus, the new SA-GAMMA logo will be unveiled at the HEASA 2019 conference in Swakopmund, Namibia (August 28 – 30, 2019), and the winner will receive a cash reward of ZAR 1,000.
