Egyptian Space Agency Inaugurates Its Board Of Directors, Gets A New CEO

In what could potentially be a big move in the Egyptian space sector, the country’s President, Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, has ordered the formation of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Space Agency.

The board will be headed by the Egyptian prime minister, and will also comprise the Ministers of Higher Education and Communications, as well as the CEO of the Agency and the head of the scientific research academy.

The board will also include the Deputy Chairman of the Council of State, representatives of the Ministries of Defence, Interior, Finance and Military Production, as well as delegates from the President’s office, the Egyptian General Intelligence Service and the Administrative Control Authority. Members of the board would each be entitled to a tenure that would last for two years, without more.

President El-Sisi made the order establishing the board via Decree No. 411/2019. He has also appointed Mohamed Afifi El-Qosi as the CEO of the Egyptian Space Agency, via Decree No. 410/2019.

This recent development is expected to provide more structure, rhythm and concreteness in the Egyptian space sector.

32nd Ordinary Session of the African Union Commission endorsed Egypt to host the African Space Agency.
