Egypt Space Agency Concludes Training Course on Space Technology

The Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA) has concluded its space technology training programme. The training is part of the implementation of the African Development Satellite Initiative (AfDev-Sat). Heads of Agencies from Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, and Sudan came up with the initiative on Egypt’s invitation. AfDev-SAT’s goal is to foster collaboration and advocate capacity development in the space industry across the continent.

The Egyptian Space Agency subsequently concluded the training on Thursday, 5th of August, 2021. The course trainees hailed from Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Sudan and Uganda. Furthermore, the course took place at EgSA’s Headquarters. The training lasted for two consecutive weeks. The trainees comprised 16 male and female candidates. Furthermore, they undertook the course under the supervision of the agency’s specialised engineers. Consequently, the engineers constantly accurately and effectively monitored the progress of the schedules. The course also featured a cultural aspect. This included visits to the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square, the famous pyramids, the Khan Al-Khalili area, the various modern markets, and free tours to many other renowned tourist areas in Cairo.

During the ceremony to conclude the training, EgSA’s CEO, Dr Mohammed Al-Qusi, and Deputy, Prof. Muhammad Iraqi welcomed and honoured the trainees. In addition to this, the CEO and his deputy gave the trainees certificates of appreciation. Likewise, the participants expressed satisfaction and happiness with what they gained and learned in the training course. Furthermore, during the ceremony, Dr Mohammed Al-Qusi noted that Egypt attaches great importance to strengthening its relations with brotherly African countries in space activities, especially to face future challenges. 

This course comes within EgSA’s interest and its keenness to strengthen African relations. In this manner, EgSA seeks to provide an opportunity for hands-on training of several techniques in space technology. Some of these fields include engineering disciplines (communication, software, and design of the lunar structure). Likewise, the training programme aimed at building African capabilities to enable the trainees to manufacture similar and simulated systems in their countries. 

According to EgSA, the programme’s practical nature was an unprecedented feat on the continent.
